Mathews Bridge

The Mathews Bridge carries the Arlington Expressway over the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, FL. Intech's contract included blast cleaning and painting over 900,000 SF of steel in the truss spans as well as miscellaneous repairs.

Near the end of the painting project the bridge was struck by a Military Sealift Command ship, severing the lower chord and closing the bridge for over a month. The incident made national news and the resulting repair effort won several engineering and construction awards. Intech played a small role on the emergency repair team, including paint removal and re-painting at the repair area, traffic control, and construction of traffic crossovers at each end of the bridge.
