Intech Awarded Contracts For Emergency Repairs On Two Kentucky Bridges

(News Release Courtesy of KYTC) FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 30, 2015) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded contracts for emergency repairs on two well-used bridges in central Kentucky – the historic “Singing Bridge” in downtown Frankfort and the Kennedy Mill Bridge on Lake Herrington, which carries KY 152 between Mercer and Garrard counties.

Intech Contracting LLC was awarded both contracts on low bids of $133,657 for repair of the Kennedy Mill Bridge – $23,000 below the cabinet’s estimate – and $74,628 for repair of the Singing Bridge, which was $42,848 below the cabinet’s estimate.

The Kennedy Mill Bridge was closed to traffic Sept. 3, just before the Labor Day weekend, because of deterioration of its steel supports. It was a blow to vacationers for whom KY 152 is the route of choice for hauling boats and travel trailers to the lake.

The Singing Bridge, which crosses the Kentucky River, just blocks from the Capitol, was reduced to a single lane of traffic and a single pedestrian sidewalk – also because of deteriorated steel. Two-way traffic will be restored following the repairs.

Intech’s contracts call for work to be completed by April 1, 2016, on the Kennedy Mill Bridge and May 30, 2016, on the Singing Bridge. In addition, Intech is required to maintain one open sidewalk on the Singing Bridge for pedestrians but may close the bridge to vehicles for up to 10 consecutive days.
